Out of the Box

That's a wrap on San Francisco Opera's second season of our "Out of the Box" concept. These beautiful, nimble performances have traveled all over the region, sending our music into the ears and hearts of people from all walks of life, and generating thousands of audience leads in target markets.

This has happened through the transformative power of our art form, and through new, meaningful partnerships with civic and business leaders who are dedicated to serving their communities.

My indefatigable colleague Ellen Presley and I pounded the pavement to source these partnerships, and it has been truly inspiring to work with City of Alameda, City of Albany, California, City of Burlingame, and City of Union City, as well as Radium Presents, and corporate partners X, the moonshot factory and Samsung Semiconductor this year.

I'm particularly grateful to have accepted on our company's behalf a proclamation from Mayor Carol Dutra-Vernaci and the City Council of Union City.

These partnerships demonstrate how effective art and music can be at building community, and I'm proud of everyone at SFO who came together to pull it off. Let's do it again next year!
